Occupational therapy addresses the development of functional skills such as self care, feeding, oral motor function and activities of daily living. Age appropriate occupations known as play and social skills are also addressed. Orthopedic conditions of the upper extremity, neurological injury of the upper extremity, along with splinting and positioning are areas that the Occupational therapist can evaluate and administer skilled treatment. The Occupational therapist also attends to issues related with motor planning, visual motor and visual perceptual skills, gross and fine motor skills, and sensory integration dysfunction. School related issues such as handwriting and attention, along with environmental modification assessments are areas that can be addressed by the occupational therapist as well.
Our Occupational therapy staff communicates between disciplines and provides parent education to ensure carry over of techniques and successful functioning in the child’s daily routine.
